Hot races: 15 candidates, 7 seats, 14 questions

It's not a presidential election year, and frankly, the Albemarle County and state General Assembly elections don't have quite the same cachet and voter-drawing power as those with name-brand national candidates.

Citizens to the polls

October 6 is the deadline for registering to vote in the November 4 election. County wannabe voters can find registration forms at the Registrar's office in the DMV building on Pantops, in the DMV lobby, in all local high schools, and other locations. Call 951-6798.

Huh? What's a Soil and Water Conservation District?

One of the most perplexing items demanding the attention of Albemarle County voters is the election of directors to the Thomas Jefferson Soil and Water Conservation District. Huh? The candidates on the November 4 ballot– Nick Evans and Steven Meeks– are the two incumbents on the district's board representing Albemarle, so it's not even a contested race.
